About the SMS Library
Librarian: Ms. Alana Atkinson
This is Ms. Atkinson's twelfth year as a school librarian. She began her career at Elliston-Lafayette Elementary School in 2003. She then served as one of the librarians at Christiansburg High School 2009-2013. This is Ms. Atkinson's first year at Shawsville Middle School and is very excited and happy to be serving the students and staff at SMS.
The SMS library is committed to supporting the learning, research and reading needs of the staff and students. English classes visit the library weekly to check out books, take Accelerated Reader quizzes, listen to book talks presented by Ms. Atkinson, word processing and research.

LIBRARY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
- Students may check out two books at a time for two weeks.
- Students may not attend special school functions (example: dances) if they have overdue books.
- Students must have a teacher's pass to be in the library (except during regularly scheduled class visits).
- Food and drink are not allowed in the library.
- All school rules apply in the library.
- Students should maintain a respectful attitude towards the learning environment of the library (talking quietly, no running or horse playing, etc.).
